Local Artist Appreciation: Ricardo Woodside 🎨

.
After closing the store today, I ran some errands in the Blue Hill Road area and had to pass through Isle Way off Soldier Road. As I was driving, I came across a familiar and pleasant sight: the artwork of Ricardo Jack Woodside. I had seen his work many times before and always told myself I would stop and chat with him. Today, I finally made good on that promise. Mr. Woodside kindly allowed me to take photos of his pieces and even agreed to an interview. Check it out below!
.
Charo: How long have you been doing art?
Mr. Woodside: I've been doing art from primary school. They used to take me out of class and let me do art work to represent the school by participating in competitions and fairs.
.
Charo: What schools did you go to?
Mr. Woodside: Columbus Primary, C. I. Gibson, S.C. McPherson and then A.F. Adderley. Then I took some courses at the College of The Bahamas. I was taking up an Associates degree (majoring in Art) but I didn't complete it.
.
Charo: So tell me about your artistic style.
Mr. Woodside: I have a style I call semi-impressionism. It's almost Impressionism which means [the art pieces] are giving the impressions but it's a break-off style. It's something that I started with Impressionism and blended it into my own style. I also have a style I call Junkanoo Expressionism. It's about the expressions of Junkanoo - the colors and the patterns. It's not from the school of Expressionism but it's just a name that I coined.
.
Charo: Where can people find you if they would like to purchase from you?
Mr. Woodside: Right here in my yard. The house number is #17 in the Malcolm Allotment area.
.
Charo: And what times are you here?
Mr. Woodside: I I try to be out every day probably from 12 pm to about 4 pm or maybe later.
